"Etavations" are random observations from the week gone by, relative to emerging brands selling and marketing needs. I apologize in advance for the poor attempt at Eta Consults humor, but hey, it's Friday.
- Everyone needs sales and revenue but some don't understand the concept of cost of sales in their business model. Ray Kinsella was wrong, "if you build they will come," had more to do with a mythical baseball field then it did with the highly competitive world we live in in real life. The best product doesn't win the race; the best product and sales wins the race. Words to live by.
- Customer service matters. Just completed a call with Acura Financial Services where they were able to work seamlessly with me on the web and the phone; making my registration process a breeze. We need more of this with companies out there that seem disconnected from the user experience.
- Knowing your marketplace and why they will buy from you seems basic, but it's amazing how many organizations do not know this. What you think is the driver may in fact be causing you to miss the mark. It takes effort to work this through.
- Organizing your "organization" to support revenue growth is critical. If you miss this, you will not be successful. Know what your senior management team is thinking on the short term and the long term and keep them focused.
- Uber and HopSpot are terrific, functionanal and useful aps. We need more of these types of products in the marketplace. When I read why startups fail half the time I'm amazed they got funding to begin with.
- The Philadelphia Eagles are now offering free Wifi at home games. It's a great add to their game experience and is the first of its offering in Philadelphia. Going to games is more interactive than ever before and allowing fans to connect in a meaningful way is terrific.
And as I advised last week to a friend, never take the road favorite giving over 7 points to a ranked team. It's bad business.
